The contributors to this blog are French pupils, aged 17-19, who study English as a foreign language and are corresponding with European students this year. They can use the

On December 6th we got e-mails from our Polish penpals. They asked us questions bout our hobbies in France. They sent us a questionnaire. We answered them and introduced ourselves to them ( age / physical appearance / studies ...). We are waiting impatiently for their answers !
On Decembre 13th, we received answers from our penpals. They described themselves physically and we prepared a questionnaire on their school system.
We received answers form Italian, American, Romanian and Polish people. Now we can compare the different European school systems!

A. Free time on weekdays and weekend
1. How much free time do you have on weekdays and how much at the weekend?
I finish school at 5pm and on Friday I finish at 3pm.
2. What do you do after school at weekdays?
I watch TV after school and I do my homework.
3. What do you do usually do at the weekend?
On Saturday I visit my friends and on Sunday I play match of handball
4. What are your hobbies and interests?
My hobbies are sports (handball, swimming...) and I like watching TV, I love reading
magazines with stars.
5. What is the most popular form of spending free time among young people in your school/area?
People hang out with their friends after school
6. How do girls and how boys spend their free time?
Girls go shopping and boys hang out with their friends
B. Holidays
1. When do summer holidays start and when do they finish?
Summer holidays start on July 1st and finish on September 2nd.
2. What about winter holidays and other school breaks?
Winter holidays start on the 18 of December and finish on the 3rd January.
We are also on holidays from the 22nd of October to 3rd November and
from 22 of April to 9 May ( Easter holidays)
3. How do you usually spend your summer / winter holidays?
I stay home for winter holidays, I go out with my friends, I do shopping, I practise sports...
On summer holidays I go to the beach with my friends.
4. What are the most popular holiday destinations ?
The French prefer going to the seaside for summer holidays.( sea and sun)
5. Do you go abroad?
yes, I went with my school to England, Germany and to Spain with my friends
6. Do you work during holidays?
I don't work during my holidays (only baby-sitting).
7. Where do you get or how do you earn money for your holidays?
I ask my mother for pocket money , and I earn money with babysitting.
Here is the answer from our American penpal describing his school system:
"The school I attend is Peninsula High School, it is a high school grades 9-12. I am in 12th grade and about to graduate at the end of this school year YAY!!!!! We have many students at our school, I feel like it is over populated sometimes. There is a lot of freshmen that go here (9th graders). Some of the major classes I am studying are Psychology and I was in Leadership for most of my high school career and just recently got out of it. The classes here are 90minutes long each. We have 10 minute passing times between every class period. And our lunches are 35 minutes long. We have a tutorial period everyday (its like a study period) and that is 45 minutes long. "
